Joseph Muscat in Wonderland
Have you read the story of Alice in Wonderland? The story goes that a young girl named Alice enters a world full of fantasy and nonsensical events. She encounters a wide array of strange, magical creatures and gets in trouble with the royal leaders of the magical place. But before any harm is done to Alice, she is woken up by her older sister and moves on with her life. It almost feels that the novel can be now be represented as Joseph Muscat's current leadership of our country. He (representing the Labour Party) has encountered plenty of different faces and gotten himself into different kinds of trouble.
Firstly, a third magistrate has been appointed to the Caruana Galizia case after the first two magistrates abstained from the case of the murder of blogger Daphne Caruana Galizia. The abstentions have brought about a certain level of insecurity and uncertainty in the case which is the last thing that the nation needs. Another factor which is worrying is how the suspects were only arrested once a number of high-profile politicians visited Malta for a convention where they met the Prime Minister. Many have pointed out that the arrests were made to satisfy the politicians who were growing restless with the lack of advancement made in the case. However, we will have to make do with the arrests and wait and see on whether the accusations made are substantial.
Secondly, a number of institutions have come under fire recently for misusing funds or not properly managing its projects. One issue was the teacher's strike in MCAST which was brought about the low wages of the lecturers, the poor conditions of the classrooms and the lack of respect shown by both the administration and students. The dispute was luckily resolved after the MUT reached an agreement but many fear that such an event may pop off again in other institutions as well.
Although we have yet to reach a critical level of instability, many wonder on how Joseph Muscat will deal with this nightmare. The only question remaining is whether Muscat will be able to wake up from this nightmare or delve deeper into Wonderland...

"MCAST would like to reaffirm that it is strongly committed to reaching a new collective agreement with MUT which gives a fair, just and improved package for its academic staff.Another issue was the tidal traffic system in Raħal Ġdid (Paola) which was removed for new projects and mixed reception from the public. Many felt that the project did not justify the cost and that the project was only used for 15 months. The tidal lane was a new sight in Malta which has been plagued by a number of traffic-related problems for a long time.
